The Blog

If you’ve been here for a while, you know I have gone on the most epic journey of hair. I’ve scoured the internet, looked at all of the tips and tricks, tried all of the fads and hair masks… you name it, I’ve done it. I’m proud to say that I have gone from short, brittle, broken and bleached hair to long, thick, healthy and happy hair, and I am here today to share with you the ten things that ACTUALLY work.

Woman washing and styling hair

1. Use the right products

Don’t just use some random, cheap shampoo and conditioner from the drugstore, because that could be the number one thing that is killing your hair. I’d encourage you to experiment with a few different types to find a good, quality product that works for you. Nioxin is great for thinning hair, and my personal faves are from Function of Beauty. What’s cool is that it’s completely custom to you. You not only get to choose the color and scent, but your hair goals as well. This helped a ton for me!

Before and after: woman with blonde hair and brown hair

2. Are you over coloring?

I used to constantly bleach and dye my hair, and that was one of the top reasons why it kept breaking. Instead, I have been coloring it at home for a few years. Now, if you have beautiful blonde hair with highlights or ombré color, obviously this is something that might be a little harder for you, and I get that. I’m sharing because coloring my own hair has literally saved it! I usually do this about every other month on the roots, just to cover up any sparse grays. I like L’Oreal Excellence hair dye in the color dark ash brown. This color doesn’t have any red or brassiness in it, and it’s simple enough for me to do on my own.

3. Hydrate your life

Your hair might need a little hug… I know mine did! After some trial and error, I’ve found what works best for me are again the Function of Beauty hair masks. I like to put a hair mask in, put my hair in a bun, and let the mask soak in for a long time while I do other things. I do this every couple of weeks, or on days I know my hair needs some extra TLC, like when I color it.

4. Detangle and protect

Similar to hydrating your hair, you want to make sure you’re detangling and protecting your hair before you blow dry it, especially when it’s wet. Focusing on the ends of your hair, use a serum or spray to help detangle and protect it from the heat of any hair tools you use for styling.

5. A wet brush

What I mean by “wet brush” is simply the tool you’re using on it when it’s wet. Your hair is more fragile when it’s wet, so it’s super important not to go HAM on it. One of the biggest ways I was breaking my hair was that I was not being gentle on it while it was wet, or when I was blow drying it. After putting serum in it, I take my time brushing through my hair really carefully so nothing breaks. I like the Wet Brush, but you can use any brush made for wet hair.

6. The right blow dryer

What kind of hair dryer are you using? It could be the thing that is killing your hair. I now use all Dyson hair products. Trust me, the first time I heard about this brand, I thought the prices were insane. After trying them, I understood the hype! The hair dryer alone has been a total lifesaver. The reason why it makes such a big difference is that it’s not straight up heat on your hair; they use a special technology that helps dry your hair faster with less heat damage.

7. Dry brushes

Like the wet brush, I’m talking about what brush you’re using between washes while your hair is dry. Your brushes are important because the bristles could be pulling out your hair if they are cheap brushes. The bristles make all the difference! I prefer a boar bristle brush; it doesn’t pull out my hair and makes it shiny and healthy. Sometimes I also use a ceramic round brush while blow drying.

8. Stop the DIY masks

I am SO passionate about this. I’ve tried so many different DIY hair masks and put so much dang coconut oil, essential oils, potions and lotions in my hair… and none of them worked. I think what I actually did was clog the pores on my head and set myself back. Learn from my mistakes and don’t do that to your poor head! BFF to BFF, don’t use random stuff or a Pinterest recipe, use a real hair mask.

9. Supplements for hair growth

Listen, there is no magic pill. I’ve tried taking biotin and all kinds of other supplements for hair growth, but there was nothing that really moved the needle. That being said, one thing I have implemented and stayed consistent with is collagen. I do believe this has helped make my hair healthier and stronger, helping the growth process along. As a bonus, it also helps with skin and nails! You can use any kind of collagen, but my fave is Beauty Collagen (if you’re interested, feel free to use my discount code ANGIEB).

10. How to tie your hair up

This tip might seem kind of random, but I promise it will help you! Some hair elastics and putting your hair in a ponytail can cause breakage. Every night before bed and even sometimes during the day, instead of a ponytail, I put my hair up in a little bun on top of my head. Just twist it up and secure it with a small clip.

Bonus tip: Be aware of anything that could be grabbing onto or pulling your hair, like a purse strap, or even a pillowcase. If you have a purse that’s always on top of your hair, that could be breaking it. A rough pillowcase could also be pulling at it at night. You can splurge and get yourself a silk pillowcase, but a really soft pillowcase will also work. You could even go one step further and put a head wrap on to protect your hair at night. The more you’re aware of anything that’s coming in contact with your hair, the better it’s going to get!

I hope you enjoyed learning my tips for hair growth, and that it was as transparent as possible. I’m just elated to be able to share the other side of the journey that felt like it took such a long time! It’s a process, but if you follow these 10 steps consistently, I truly believe that you’re going to get this on lock. You’ve got this!

At the beginning of every week, month and year, I always like to hit the reset button. There is something to be said about a fresh start! I’m going to break down ten steps I follow to give me that fresh start and clean slate (literally) that I look forward to!

Woman cleaning and decorating

1. Remove any excess that you don’t need (undecorate)

If you’re been around for a while, you know I’m a seasonal gal. I have decor out for every season, but once that season is over, it feels good to remove everything and start from scratch.

2. Clean all surfaces and floors

Vacuuming, dusting, and getting everything out always feels amazing.

3. Tidy up storage areas, go through & toss or donate items

Far too often, I see people who have all of these things that don’t really matter to them. It’s all about quality over quantity! Have a few select items that mean something to you. Go through your things and clothes. If there is anything you haven’t used or worn in the past year, maybe it’s time to get rid of it, unless it has sentimental value.

4. Get moving/set up a workout plan

Honestly, it doesn’t even have to be a workout plan. If you enjoy taking walks, do it! Whatever way you like to move, just get your body moving.

5. Set healthy habits

This can be water intake, a meal plan for yourself, cooking at home, or maybe even a “dry” month (no booze). Work on the habits that make you feel your best!

6. Plan for me time/quiet time

Don’t forget to slow down and take some quiet time for yourself. For me, this is reading (fiction). The book I’m currently reading is Things We Hide From the Light by Lucy Score.

7. Set sleeping hours and track

I use my Oura ring to track my sleeping habits, but you can also use a journal. Take note of how many hours you slept and how you felt after.

Woman taking a photo in a mirror

8. Do something that feels good

For me, things like putting on nails, doing my makeup, and doing my hair make me feel good!

9. Map out your goals for the week, month or year

Use your planner to plan it all out!

10. If you don’t know what your goals are, try My Dream Life Blueprint Workbook

If you’re feeling like you need a reset on what you want in life, try going through the workbook. I like to do this every few months as my goals are constantly evolving.

These are the things I’ve committed to for the new month, and so far I think it’s going really well. If these 10 ways to reset resonate with you, as always, don’t forget to tag me or share below what’s working for you!

Something my husband and I get asked a lot is how we do Disney as a couple. For us, one of the biggest things is making time to go to a nice dinner. The food on Disney property is some of the best in the world, and I feel like a lot of people don’t know that! I’d love to walk you through our picks for the best Disney World restaurants for adults. These are nice, sit down restaurants for a romantic dinner for two. I’ll also pair it with a bar, so you can make the most of your experience and enjoy a drink before dinner if you’d like. As always, I’d suggest making a reservation if there is a place you want to try.

A couple eating and drinking at restaurants

In no particular order, let’s jump right in!

1. Cocktail Hour: Nomad Lounge at Animal Kingdom

Dinner: Jiko - The Cooking Place at Animal Kingdom Lodge

Andre and Angie Bellemare

Nomad Lounge is a short drive or bus ride over to Animal Kingdom Lodge, and one of the best bars for a good cocktail. It’s easier to get in with two people, and sunset is always the perfect time of day. If you’re there late enough, the Avatar forest will come alive. It’s really freaking cool! The Green Shimmering Margarita is one of the best drinks ever, almost like a rum punch married a margarita. Plus, it has glitter in it, so it’s a no-brainer!

The meals are always amazing at Jiko! We love the Boar Tenderloin as an appetizer. For entrees, their fish is really good, and Andre likes the lamb shank. They’re also known for their mac and cheese, so it’s a must-have if you go!

2. Cocktail Hour: AbracadaBar at Disney's BoardWalk

Dinner: Flying Fish at Disney's BoardWalk

AbracadaBar is the most vibey bar ever! It’s been our watering hole for years. The Pepper’s Ghost cocktail is my fave.

There’s a lot of competition, but we’ve been to Flying Fish so many times and have never had a bad experience there (knock on wood). They always have great service and great food!

Purple and pink cocktails

3. Cocktail Hour: Cocktails around the world at EPCOT

Dinner: Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya in the Japan Pavilion at EPCOT

If you go to EPCOT, you’ve got to do cocktails around the world! Stop at a few different Pavillions at World Showcase and sample some different drinks from all over the world. You can get a great marg in Mexico, and you can’t go wrong with limoncello in Italy!

The food at Izakaya is some of the best! The sushi is amazing, and I also recommend the Kobe beef.

4. Cocktail Hour: Dahlia Lounge at Coronado Springs Resort

Dinner: Toledo - Tapas, Steak & Seafood at Coronado Springs Resort

I don’t know what kind of bourbon or whisky they use at Dahlia’s, but it tastes like maple syrup. It might sound weird, but it’s really good. It’s Andre’s favorite! He recommends their Manhattan.

Toledo is another spot we have yet to have a bad experience at. It’s always amazing, and the food is outstanding. The vibe of the restaurant is so beautiful. You can also catch the fireworks from there if you sit by a window!

5. Cocktail Hour: Crew's Cup Lounge at Yacht Club Resort or Martha's Vineyard at Beach Club Resort

Dinner: Yachtsman Steakhouse at Yacht Club Resort

The Yachtsman is one of our favorite steakhouses. Ask for Barry from Bermuda; he’s amazing!

Plate of bruschetta and a cocktail

6. Cocktail Hour: Lobby Bar at Four Seasons Resort

Dinner: Capa at Four Seasons Resort

Technically, the Four Seasons is not on Disney property, but Capa is one of our favorite restaurants. It’s very special to us because it’s where we went the first time we toured our new neighborhood and came here for drinks after, so we have some amazing memories here. If you’re eating outside, that makes it even cooler because of the view. You can see the fireworks from all of the parks!

Honorable mentions:

EPCOT:

San Angel Inn Restaurante in the Mexico Pavilion

Coral Reef Restaurant

Disney Springs:

Wine Bar George

The Boathouse

Frontera Cocina

Hopefully this helps you if you want to go out and have a nice dinner at Disney World. Like I said, it’s some of the best food ever, so have at it. Enjoy being a Disney foodie! If you find a hidden gem I didn’t mention here, leave it in the comments so I can check it out!
